Project 11 Mount Parade, York

This grade II listed terraced house had been owned by our client but rented out for a number of years. Returning to England from living abroad, our client asked us to gain listed building consent to re-order elements of the floor plan, advise on ways to reduce heating bills and incorporate a more efficient heating system.

The original windows were found to be in excellent condition but simply draughty, they were completely overhauled and draught stripped and re-painted. The original shutters were discovered and restored to provide night time insulation and improved security. Underfloor heating was laid beneath the floorboards and wood fibre insulation with lime plaster was applied to the external walls. This retains breathability and maintains healthy internal air quality.

This traditional terraced house is now far warmer with lower utility bills all achieved without losing the historic character of the property.
